"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Its not widely known, but this famous quote by Benjamin Franklin was actually fire-fighting advice. (He founded the first fire fighting organization in Philadelphia.) But his sage advice has such obvious application to healthcare that many assume he was writing about medicine when he coined the phrase.

Prevention is the first and best line of defense against any illness, including cancer. The Patrick Dempsey Center is committed to educating the public about the wisdom of living a lifestyle that minimizes behaviors that may contribute to the development of cancer. The Patrick Dempsey Center is also dedicated to furthering public education in other aspects of cancer detection, treatment and follow-up care.
